On Site Training
Fire safe Training provides a range of onsite courses for different businesses, such as hospitals, schools, hotels, nursing homes, offices, factories and many more. Our instructors will make themselves familiar with the layout and the fire hazards within your building beforehand. Courses are modified to be site specific. All courses can be tailored to specific clients needs. Courses are normally done on site, but in the event that this is not feasible we can arrange a location for delivery of training.
Under both the 1981 & 2003 Fire Services Act and Regulation 8 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 your business is required by law to provide staff with adequate fire safety training.
Section 18(2) of the Fire Services Act, 1981 & 2003 is quoted as follows: –
“It shall be the duty of every person having control over premises to which this section applies to –
(a) take all reasonable measures to guard against the outbreak of fire on such premises,
(b) provide reasonable fire safety measures for such premises and prepare and provide appropriate fire safety procedures for ensuring the safety of persons on such premises,
(c) ensure that the fire safety measures and procedures referred to in paragraph (b) are applied at all times, and
(d) ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the safety of persons on the premises in the event of an outbreak of fire whether such outbreak has occurred or not
Sections 8, 9 and 10 of the 2005 Act require that sufficient information, training and supervision is provided to ensure the safety of employees, and also that such instruction, training etc. must take account of any employees with specific needs, to ensure their protection against dangers that may affect them.
Care homes and designated centres for older people
The requirements relating to fire precautions under legislation cited are covered specifically under Regulation 28 (Fire Precautions) of the Health Act 2007 (Care and Welfare of Residents in Designated Centres for Older People) Regulations,
2013 which states:
28. (1) The registered provider shall:
a) take adequate precautions against the risk of fire, and shall provide suitable fire fighting equipment, suitable building services, and suitable bedding and furnishings;
b) provide adequate means of escape, including emergency lighting;
c) make adequate arrangements for:
- maintaining of all fire equipment, means of escape, building fabric and building services;
- reviewing fire precautions, and
- testing fire equipment.
d) make arrangements for staff of the designated centre to receive suitable training in fire prevention and emergency procedures, including evacuation procedures, building layout and escape routes, location of fire detection and alarm call points, first aid, fire fighting equipment, fire control techniques and the procedures to be followed should the clothes of a resident catch fire.
e) ensure, by means of fire safety management and fire drills at suitable intervals, that the persons working at the designated centre and, in so far as is reasonably practicable, residents, are aware of the procedure to be followed in the case of fire.
(2) The registered provider shall make adequate arrangements for:
detecting, containing and extinguishing fires;
ii. giving warning of fires;
- calling the fire service; and
- evacuating, where necessary in the event of fire, of all persons in the designated centre and safe placement of residents.
28. (3) The person in charge shall ensure that the procedures to be followed in the event of fire are displayed in a prominent place in the designated centre.
